About this deal

Back in the 1970's, Burnt, Greco and Nokia guitars were scoffed at and not given the respect they deserved. I’m not sure if that's because I’m not used to a 14” radius or maybe just not being used to a Les Paul body in general; either way it didn’t take me long to warm up to, but it definitely feels a little harder to hit those notes than on another single cutaway, like a Tele for instance. There are several quality PAF style humbuckers that will also give you a more vintage sound with lower output. Of course even though the finish is very nice, it just can't be compared withe an Epiphone Tuxedo or a Casino but hey! In the neck position, you’ll find a warm sounding 650R pickup while the bridge position holds a slightly hotter 700T.

So, imagine my surprise when the Epiphone Les Paul Special VE has now become the number one guitar I pick up. You won't have the bragging rights, but you will have a useable guitar that sounds good and inspires practice. Credit is provided by a panel of lenders with whom we have a commercial relationship (so we cannot provide independent advice). I liked to use a slide with it, but, after a while of doing that, the high E would snap at the bridge thing, after an "aggressive" slide work out. Also, every guitarist must eventually learn how to work on his guitar: restringing at a minimum, but adjusting action, making small electronic repairs or upgrades. Some may think sports provide some of those life lessons too, but with guitar, you don't risk critical injury or regular public humiliation. The easiest solution to this problem is simply to raise the action, so I did that to get rid of the fret buzz. I'm mostly interested in the sound, if it has the same sort of tone, thats really what matters to me. It’s not perfect, and there are a few things I would change about it, but I’d say the Les Paul Special VE is definitely worth the money. And it's all thanks to Epiphone's careful construction of an all-time rock 'n' roll classic - the Les Paul. In all that time, almost every youngster or teenager puts stickers on his-her guitars, draws on them, tattoos them, refinishes or carves them! I should note that I’ve always been a Fender guy through and through; I’ve never owned nor wanted to own a Les Paul, and that is.It’s not bad enough to be a real problem—I might have expected worse—but it does catch me up a little.

I'm very glad that you gave attention to those guitars, in a few years, many of today's gear snobs will recognize Epiphone's place as great instrument makers, along side the "Big Boys" .The bolt on neck structure gets in the way impeding your ability to reach the high notes, you should be able to reach fret 22 without too much trouble.

Epiphone Les Paul Special guitars are available in a number of styles, usually with a pair of humbuckers or P90 pickups. After being properly dialed in, almost nothing except Gibson’s best examples can equal the neck/fretboard configuration. The Les Paul VE is cut to the same classic profile of all Les Pauls and has a comfortable and fast Mahogany bolt-on neck with a 1960's SlimTaper™ D profile. The Epiphone Les Paul Special VE Vintage Edition in Vintage Worn Ebony with its new Worn, Vintage finishes, is powered by Open Coil Humbuckers and has a Poplar body.
