Description

It is aimed at children aged between 5 and 12 years old, and can only be played on an Ipad or iPhone. They also have several levels of math add-ons that are super high-quality, and fun. These work great for helping reinforce math concepts, but not necessarily teach them. What We Didn’t Love: Update: Woohoo, Osmo now makes an ipad case that works with their setup! Just make sure you buy the right size.

The apps we loved the most were the ones that required you to really engage with both the physical part of the game as well as the screen. We both can’t recommend Osmo highly enough, it is a fantastic introduction to the world of coding through game play. If you have bought an item from us that proves to be faulty, please let us know as soon as the fault becomes apparent so we are able to help. Decomposition is one piece of the puzzle that can be tough for younger players. Looking at where Awbie is, where you want him to go, and how he has to move to get there is a very complex set of skills. This is problem-solving at its finest. This is an absolutely brilliant game and he had no idea he was actually learning, which is always a bonus! I cannot recommend this highly enough it is fabulous. Grab your Osmo game here.

Help two lovable characters Awbie and Mo to overcome brain-stretching challenges through code! Learn collaboration and teamwork, computational thinking, and more. Why is Coding Important for Kids? We also love their newer drawing apps. We haven’t tried it yet, but another on our list to try soon is one of their math add-ons, Secrets of Dragons, for older kids here.

Before you begin playing this game, make sure to explain to your child about the basic steps for cooking the dish, along with the ingredients required to make it. Overall, we’re enjoying the Osmo and I like that we’ve been able to build it into our homeschool routine. I was really impressed with how well-made and durable all the Osmo parts are. While we teach our boys to treat what we own carefully, I love when something is durable and feels like it will actually hold up to normal wear and tear. Update: 6 years later, and it’s still going strong! Osmo teaches logic skills and problem-solving. It also helps kids succeed in an increasingly digital world. We called in the experts (aka our panel of kid reviewers and their parents) to test this year’s hottest toys. Their favorites earned the Mashable Choice Toys badge of honor. This was the game that the boys were the most excited about. And it did not disappoint! The game itself was super fun, and I loved how it made them think very logically about what they needed to do to move the monster around the map and perform actions. The difficulty progression was handled very well.

Coding Awbie uses a levels-based game to teach kids how to make use of Algorithms, Sequences, and Decomposition. With cars being able to drive themselves already. Plus kids have so many toys orientated toward electronic gaming, that it is almost impossible to avoid it. The Osmo base can either fit an iPhone or an IPad by easily changing the base around. There are details showing how to do this. This table shows the different options you can choose. And below it, there are a few useful things to bear in mind. I am always keeping an eye out for the latest and greatest coding games and best coding apps for kids. Some of you may remember the review I did a while ago on Osmo’s Coding Jam. Well, Osmo has other coding activities out there, like Osmo Coding Awbie, and it is just as wonderful and educational. What is Coding Awbie?

Coding doesn’t need to be taught online. It can be taught through screen-free means that can prove to be just as fun! As you know, kids learn the best through movement and play. That’s why we’ve put together a list of interactive, simple coding games for kids that teach core programming skills through play. Did you know that creating a routine for your child is like familiarizing your child with the concept of algorithms? It’s true! As you know, every algorithm consists of specific steps that result in a positive or negative outcome. Similarly, if you always follow a specific routine, it’s always going to result in the same outcome. Players must first break down the route Awbie needs to take through decomposition, then use algorithms and sequences to tell him where to go. Final Thoughts on Coding Awbie The kid’s coding language used is Awbie. Where you can jump, walk, repeat, hand, and play so it is a super easy starting position.
