Description

Christophe De Pelsemaker’s Logo Books, an online archive of pages from out-of -print publications dedicated to trademarks, is one such resource. Letters As Symbols takes a simple premise, showing logos each based on a single letter of the alphabet from A to Z. However, the book was never released and remained untouched for decades until Christophe De Pelsemaker met Ibou in June 2017. The iconic booklet of LogoArchive is reimagined as a bright yellow folder in which to hold examples of the original Letters As Symbols submission forms received in 1991 from designers such as Félix Beltrán, Woody Pirtle and Rolf Harder. It questions the productisation and premiumisation of things with a wider cultural significance, and the restrictions and filters these create.

With ITC, Ibou created an immense archive on logos designed by all the leading designers of that era, such as: Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Wim Crouwel, Jozef-Müller Brockmann, Yasaburo Kuwayama, Ken Cato, Eduardo A. So whether you want to put symbols in your Tumblr blogs, Facebook statuses, Twitter profiles or tweets, Instagram bios or wherever, this translator should hopefully be handy for that.

He adds: "Like all other books Paul Ibou has published, Letters As Symbols is the result of years of dedication towards the corporate identity design industry and a close relationship with leading designers of his era. From interviews with celebrated academics and alternative practitioners to a fashion editorial set in the most visually inspiring school in Denmark, Issue Thirty-Three of Kinfolk considers how education might be reimagined for a time when cognitive scientists are increasingly insistent that there is no expiry date on our brain’s ability to learn. Have fun putting together a customized look or add to a notebook or planner to create a meaningful gift for someone special. Beta was ultimately somewhat modified in form to B by the Greeks, who wrote it and other reversible letters facing in either direction; in the early days of writing they wrote from right to left, as the Semitic peoples usually did and as the Hebrew is still written.

This gives you the possibility of being surprised to see the same level of quality between some of the respected leaders and the less known designers. Its Semitic name was ' aleph, the initial apostrophe here indicating the consonant in question; and, because the name means 'ox,' it has been thought to represent an ox's head, though interpreting many of the Semitic signs as pictorial characters presents as yet insuperable difficulties (Gelb 1963, pp. Intern Magazine Issue Two features Jessica Walsh, Adrian Shaughnessy and Jean Jullien alongside some of the finest emergent creative practitioners. The logos featured in 'Letters As Symbols' are a combination of work made by the greatest of all time and of work by contemporary known and unknown designers or agencies. The first edition of nomad contains an interview with the renowned Danish city planner Jan Gehl centred on the question: “How can major cities be designed for human life? Many of these original submission forms were reproduced and used in the creation of Letters As Symbols and are accompanied by the work of contemporary talented and reputed designers or agencies from the industry. Put differently, if we had to fill out a form, if there was an expense in time and postage, would we be more considerate of what we might send in for publication (and archival) for the the future. UnderConsideration is a graphic design firm generating its own projects, initiatives, and content while taking on limited client work. In its new format, the book gathers Ibou’s original archive materials with more contemporary work; offering a broad selection of beautiful logo design and lettering that’s likely to prove an inspiration for designers, artists, agencies, teachers, typographers, students, and pretty much anyone interested in logo design, typography and letterforms.
